Adding more controversy to the Indian Premier League – IPL, Subrata Roy told that he will use VETO power to select enough players from Uttar Pradesh State. He further said, “We don’t have facilities to conduct IPL matches in the Uttar Pradesh but it doesn’t mean we will ignore UP”.
Some cricket experts have concern over this statement because this could lead to another controversy in the IPL. “We already have enough problems in our IPL Package, and this comment was unnecessary”, a leading commentator said.IPL Fans over Twitter reacted that if he wants to represent Uttar Pradesh than why he chooses IPL Pune, he could better choose Kanpur which was also one of the leading contester of the Bid.
But many cricket experts and fans believe that even Mumbai Indians have players from all around the country and therefore controversy should not be started on this issue until best players are ignored while selecting players from Uttar Pradesh.
The comment of Subrata Roy hints that Mohammad Kaif, Suresh Raina, Piyush Chawla, R. P. Singh and Praveen Kumar could be leading players of Sahara Pune Warriors.
The statement of Subrata Roy came when he announced Geoff Marsh as coach of Sahara Pune Warriors team for the year 2011.

It is very upsetting to see a Pune Based team owner saying UP players will be given a preference. That is openly biased, if they want to promote UP players they then need to go and be based out of UP. Local Maharashtra Players need to be given a look in ….
I completely oppose such open preference. They need to have an open mind and pick the best, not based on where they come from.

Past achievements- Played for school cricket team as an all-rounder and selected in under-17 district cricket team, for school cricket i took 22 wickets(took 4 wickets twice) in 7 matches(5 over per match) with economy rate 4-5 and made more than 100 runs with strike rate over 100, now Presentally playing for college cricket team from last 3 years and take 40-45 wickets (4 wickets 4-5 times) in 15-20 matches and also made more than 300 runs. Recentally i played 3 matches and i took 10 wickets(took 4 wickets twice) with economy rate 3 (3 overs per match)and also made runs with the bat.

Then why didn’t Mr. Roy bought the team of kanpur if he wanted UP talent? I agree that at the end the players will be from our country itself but how feasible is it to import players from other state and ignoring locals? It’s really shameful that team pune will be represented by bhaiyyas! Puneites will surely boycott this. bhaiyyas, now we will show you the ‘PUNERI HISKA’.
if sahara is having this attitude, they better don’t expect any business profit. because, puneites, whom you see as a potential market for your business, won’t come to the stadium to cheer for bhaiyyas. Punekar will surely make you sell your team next year so be prepared.

Very strange decision by subrato roy, looks very political. I am afraid straight forward Punekars will definitely not going to support team which includes more players outside Maharashtra. Mumbai Indians will be open choice to Punekars. I he wants to include UP players he must not use Pune’s name.

and u better don’t comment about spending power of us. it’s definitely much higher than other cities. spending power of puneites is the prime reason for buying pune team instead of kanpur.
and lastly we all are well educated. we understand difference btwn 300crore rs & 3000 rs. so u stupid raka should understand that if 40000 people spend 3000 rs per head per match, it becomes 84 crore per season(7 matches per season).

No Pune should be represented by Mutthus only not by Bhayyaz. I think these mutthus should know the meaning of bhayyaz first, bhayyaz means elder brother. If mutthus consider UP wala as bhayyaz then don’t worry chotus, will take care of u guys. Will keep some mutthus as 12th man so that they can go to field as and when require for drink or some work. I think now so called mutthus will be happy.
He has to right to use as he bought this name. Whatever u think political or else, team should include only talented players irrespective of the states.

And say Jai bharat then Jai Marashtra, this lesson should teach to every marathis first becoz they know only their state. They should understand Maharashtra is a state only, it has identification becoz of India only.

and the other issue which you raised about marathi people is totally mis-leading. we never opposed to say jay bharat & you know that according to constitution, “every indian can live in any state” but you fail to read the further sentence which says- “the migrated person shouldn’t create harm or nuisance to the local people”
Those who come here and get mixed up with local people and respect local culture & language are never treated as outsiders.
the migration of people from U.P. & bihar is caused due to lack of jobs in their states and ultimately their state governments are responsible for this. why should other states suffer?
I agree with the above comment. the migration always affects the society and it’s counter-reaction by locals is much obvious. and this is not happening only in maharashtra but its happening all over the world, many developed countries like UK, US, australia are also facing the problem caused by migrants.The only solution to stop this is to make individual towns, individual states capable of producing sufficient number of jobs so that their people don’t require to go to other cities, other states or other countries to find a job.
I think this much explaination is enough to understand that nobody is wrong, everybody is right at their own situation.

as it is pune team, most of the players are expected be from the same city. there is a huge talent in india. Every big city has loads of talented players. the only thing they require is exposure to national and international cricket. Local players in pune have a lot of talent & as they have their city team, they deserve to be part of it. and finally U.P. players have not born with any superpower to have extra-ordinary talent than other indians.

Lets keep the debate simple.there are 400 players from all over the world in the ipl auction.each team is gonna buy 30 players.now obviously there will be players from all over the country in the team.maharashtra has its own mpl which will help talented youngsters 4m pune to show case there talent.if they have potential then why just pune but they can be selected by the other ipl teams too.roy is not stupid to be biased in his selection .he is a businessman after all
